Yahoo buys an “unexceptional” app from a 17 year-old developer for 30 million

After reading becoming one of the youngest multimillionaires in the world after Yahoo brought his mobile app which, Wired’s Ryan Tate stated “The team and technology are unexceptional and the app itself will be shut down..”, for $30USD million its not hard to see Yahoo’s play here.

Buy any app, off any kid, for an outrageous sum of money and let the world write about it (including me). Then watch as every developer in the world creates stuff for Yahoo in the blind hope that Yahoo will buy their software for millions.

Quite a good strategy.
