You know that being an entrepreneur today means you have to have a strong online presence. But there’s more to it than just having one. You have to improve and promote that online presence so that both your current and potential customers can find you.

Today’s consumer is tech-savvy. When they are looking for something, they want to be able to find it by using search engines, social media sites, and other information hubs. You’ll want to use these mediums to put your best virtual face forward. That lets potential customers know they’re making the right choice in a sea of businesses.

Improving Your Online Presence

Widening awareness of your brand is time-consuming, but it’s vitally important in today’s marketplace. Your online presence is made up of all of the personal and business interactions that you make both online and off. Why do offline interactions matter? These days, a good or bad offline interaction is sure to find its way online.

Here are four important ways for you to improve your online presence so customers will seek you out.

1. Establish yourself as an expert – You can do this by publishing authoritative papers, articles or giving how-to advice that is far more effective than direct advertising. Value-added content is what your customers are looking for. Make yourself a potential go-to person that they will look to for advice. Start with the basics. Entrepreneur Scott Vollero did on his Crunchbase profile. Credentials and work history are a great place to start, but you’ll need to go further than just that. Publishing informative pieces will build on your basic credentials to establish your authority.

2. Your Company Website – Make sure that you have a website that is easy for users to navigate and has as much information about your company and your products as possible. This makes you more authoritative. Your site should also have a professional UI and security features to show you care about your customer’s personal information. If possible, use your company’s name as a domain name. It makes you easier to find on the most popular search engines such as Google and Bing.

3. Create Videos – When customers want to find out more information on how to solve a problem or learn to do something themselves, many will turn to online videos.  You can easily create an increased awareness of your brand by producing videos about your company, or how-to information that your customers will value. Videos have a strong appeal and may be more likely to be shared than long-form pieces.

4. Add Links for Customer Interaction — When you post a blog entry, publish an article or add content, post a link for customers to contact you. Whether this is through comments, a direct email address, or a social media site such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterest, you need to have at least one. When customers do reach out to you, be sure to get back to them as quickly as possible. This makes your customers feel important and improves your reputation.

Are you using these four strategies to improve your online presence? If not, you should! It will help you establish your reputation in the minds of your visitors. On the internet, reputation is everything and it constantly needs refreshing. If your profiles and blog are dusty, it’s time to get them active again.
