It is a tale of woe that many businesses share. They spend time and money creating their website, hiring designers, coders, and SEO experts to start increasing their customers. Yet your business is not growing as you expected and the ROI from that website investment is non-existent. If your website is costing you money, then there are five changes you need to make now to start seeing that ROI.

1. Revamp Your Design

Your design could be a huge part of the problem in your poor-performing website for two reasons.

  1. It is off-putting. Even if you love that fire-engine red background with bold black text, it probably scares many of your site visitors into leaving. Choose colors that are comforting and compelling and that match your brand personality. Always opt for a simpler design so the audience is drawn in and can find things easily.
  2. It is slow-loading. If your website looks spectacular, the load time might be slow enough that visitors get frustrated and leave. Hire a new designer to see if they can clean up some of the coding aspects that are slowing your site down, or consider switching to a new hosting company for faster speeds.

2. Implement SEO and Track Metrics

This is an area where you want to invest in a professional and highly experienced SEO expert. They will be able to optimize your websites for search engines so you appear at the top with the right keyword combinations. They will also submit your website to online directories and tweak all the content on your website so it is SEO-friendly.

You also need to track your SEO and general website metrics. This can be done yourself by signing up for Google Analytics or you can see if your SEO expert knows a little about analytics and measuring your website metrics. By looking at your metrics, you can analyze what is blocking conversions and adjust.

3. Insert a Call to Action

Perhaps you are not converting visitors to customers because you are not telling them what to do. On every page, insert a call to action that instructs visitors the next steps they need to take. Direct them to your contact page if they have any questions. Escort them to the product listings so they can explore options. Ask them to check out your About page if they have questions about who you are and what you do. These directions will help them find their way to becoming a customer.

4. Include Social Media Links

The best way for your site visitors to become customers? Be able to interact and communicate with them on social media. When you include social media links on your website, you give site visitors the option to get to know your business better. You can chat with them on social, handle customer service issues, and answer any questions they have about your business. They will also be able to share your posts and spread your brand name across the internet.

5. Optimize for Mobile

Since 60% of internet access is from mobile devices, you need to make sure your website is optimized for mobile platforms as well. Design your website so it is mobile friendly and offer users both versions of your website – mobile or web. With 83% of consumers planning to purchase via mobile this year, you need a mobile option.
