You’re going to rock the market in 2011. You’re going to have the confidence of a rockstar just by improving the way you write when you’re online. This won’t be a long, boring lesson in grammar like you had in high school. This is about 5 simple things you can do to change your writing style to get noticed online.

1. Start With Results

Begin a Tweet, Facebook status update or blog post with action words that quantify the benefits. For example, “Save 20% with product XYZ” or “Learn how Marc saved up to 30 percent on advertising costs with this new tool.”

2. Establish Company Credibility

Next, use testimonials and statistics or third party reviews to establish credibility. People are already nervous about purchasing online. They want to see your company is legit before they do business with you.

3. Write Open Ended Questions

People love hearing themselves talk! Especially online. Encourage interaction by posting something fun or interesting on your Facebook Page or blog. Then ask “What do you think?”, “How can I help you?” or “What have you done that is fun?”.

4. Post less words and more videos!

Those of you who dread writing are loving this one! Post videos to get readers interacting.
But videos do more than engage readers — they are very important in getting and keeping your website indexed in the search engines. Search engines such as Google and Yahoo rely on the text within the blog post, but they also use the caption text and the filenames you associate with photos and videos.

5. Write about off-topic items

People ultimately will read your blog, Facebook status updates or Tweets if you develop a fun online personality. Don’t make every post about your newest product or service. I call this “Social Media Restraint.” Don’t worry….there will probably be a support group or rehab center for this soon. 🙂

But in all seriousness, I challenge each one of you to try each of these writing strategies in 2011. You’ll start seeing results and you’ll start having fun with marketing again!
