But first – goals!

Greg Secker always stresses the importance of defining good goals for yourself. The type of goals that mean something to you. Below are Greg Secker’s 4 steps for defining REAL goals for yourself. I love the importance of “closing the door behind you” to reduce your ability to find excuses for not completing your goal.

Step 1: Set a Meaningful Goal

Only set a goal if you truly want it. Your subconscious will make your goal a reality if its convinced this is what you want.

Step 2: Plan how You will Reach Your Goal with Surgical Precession

Lets test you right now by asking you this… If one of your goals is a house or an expensive car then how much does this cost? For example if you want a Ferrari whats the model?, who sells it?, whats the waiting list for delivery and whats the cost including any road tax? If you cannot provide the answers then is this really a goal you believe you can reach? If it was you would already be planning for it right? You need to know everything about your goal and how you plan to reach it. When you do you are in fact one step closer to making it real.

Step 3: Schedule It and Lock the Door Behind You

Humans are lazy in some form and goal setting for the New Year always highlights this. Make sure you set a schedule for reaching your goal. Treat it like a project and create a project plan. Plus! Think of 3 ways that you can “close the door behind you” to really force yourself to reach the goal and make it bloody hard not to get out of it. For example handing in your notice for your job if you want to work for yourself or if that really freaks you out see if you can reduce your hours of work which means less money coming in so you will need to start earning your own money.

Step 4: Hang Out with the Right People

If you want a Ferrari join the local Ferrari club and talk to Ferrari owners. This gives you the environment you need to build up your confidence that you can reach your goal and also helps with the “feel” of owning a Ferrari. If you hang out with people who tell you that you will never own a Ferrari is that good for you?
