The Rise of Social Network Ad Spending

eMarketer, which predicts that US advertisers will spend nearly $1.7 billion on social sites this year. This is a noticeable increase from initial 2010 projection made by eMarketer, which forecasted $1.3B for this year, as well as a 20% increase from 2009 spending. Of course Facebook will receive the bulk of advertising spend.

    There are some staggering figures here. Not that long ago we were becoming worried about the amount of advertising spend that was moving from traditional channels to the web. Now it appears that advertising within social media alone is growing, potentially at the expense of 'traditional' web based advertising. How times change!

  3. It's interesting in watching the movie "The Social Network" about Facebook how dead set Mark Z. was against ads on Facebook and what a gold mine it's turned out to be for them.
