Hey, what a great post man!! I must say that. It's really great to see some of the most interesting and -no more- using type of advertising strategies. I still believe that these are the best type to get greater attention from the mass. Must say this, an awesome collection!!

It is amazing to see what passed for normal and acceptable in decades past. All heck would break loose if these ads ran in today's media.

@JustinW The point of this was to show that the themes in the older ads are still rampant today.

These ads do run in today's media – but they are less blatant or just portrayed a bit differently. For instance, the 7 inch sandwich ad is sexist, just as the older ads are. Skin bleaching cremes, in the ad that communicates that darker skin tones are ugly, still exist and use the same framework (that fairer skin is better) to sell products. Ads for cleaning products and kitchen ware is largely targeted towards women, not men, assuming and asserting that the women's place is to do housework (if not full-time, then in addition to a job outside the home).

Disgusting! No moral compass there. It's more than not getting away with it. If advertising isn't more enlightened than this in 2010, we have made no progress in the last 70 years.

OMG! I'm not surprised at the old ads, but it is a terrible testament to how little we have truly progressed to see the modern ads alongside them and realize there's still a market for this kind of imagery.

Although I must admit I found the London ad more funny thank crude. I suppose it could have been a touch more subtle though.
